We help our neighbors with basic needs like food and housing. We also help them plan for the future and reach their goals. It's this whole-person approach that makes the Jonnycake Center different.

We offer:

  • Resources and guidance for adults and families working towards financial stability, job preparedness and secure housin
  • Services for seniors that encourage connection, health, and independence

Children

Little Apple Seeds (ages 2–4)

A monthly playgroup for young children and their parents or caregivers. Families enjoy playtime, music, movement, stories, and snacks. Adults can connect with each other and learn about helpful community resources.

Pre-School Scholarships (ages 3–5)

In special cases, we help families pay for pre-school. We especially support children enrolled in South Kingstown Preschool.

Apple Seeds (ages 6–8)

A program for first and second grade students. Children learn in a safe and supportive space where they can try new things and build confidence. Activities focus on hands-on learning, reading, math, and social skills. Students are referred by Peace Dale Elementary School staff.

Jonnycake Youth Center (middle and high school students)

The Jonnycake Youth Center is a fun and welcoming place for teens. Young people can make friends, learn new skills, and build confidence.

At the Center, students can:

  • Get help with school, including tutoring and staying organized
  • Enjoy activities like basketball, surfing, and overnight summer camp
  • Be creative in our Makerspace with art, crafts, sewing, and 3D printing
  • Get help with FAFSA applications for college

Summer Camp Scholarships (all ages)

We help families pay for summer camp, with a focus on Camp Fuller. Other camps may be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Adults

Financial Assistance and Services

We help Jonnycake members become more financially stable. Our Community Health Workers work one-on-one with individuals and families. Together, we set goals and make simple plans for moving forward.

We can help with:

  • Emergency assistance for housing, utilities, and transportation
  • Some move-in costs for new housing
  • Applying for benefits like SNAP (food assistance) and Medicaid
  • Free tax filing for households earning under $67,000

Thundermist Mobile Health Center

The Thundermist Mobile Health Center visits the Jonnycake Center every Wednesday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. No appointment is needed, and anyone can be seen.

Services include:

  • Checkups and sick visits
  • Counseling and screenings
  • Referrals and follow-up care

Food Deliveries

Seniors who are homebound may be eligible for a monthly or bi-monthly delivery of groceries.
